On January 20th, 2021 at 11:53 AM EST, Joseph R Biden Jr. was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States of America. And earlier, Kamala Harris was sworn in as the 46th Vice President of the United States of America. Harris is the first South-Asian, African-American, and female vice president. After Biden was sworn in, he gave what would be described as his best speech, touching frequently on how he wants to be a president for all. You can watch the speech here. Most of the former presidents attended except Jimmy Carter who did not travel due to health reasons. Also not in attendance was Former President Donald Trump who left Washington hours before Joe Biden was sworn in. In attendance, though, was Former Vice President Mike Pence who shared a moment with Vice President Harris as they left the Capital. After the Inauguration, Joe Biden signed an Inauguration Proclamation, his Cabinet and Sub-Cabinet appointments. They also received gifts from members of Congress. After they left the Capital, the President and Vice President, along with all the former presidents who attended the Inauguration, made their way to Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. From Kamala Harris being sworn in as the first woman Vice President to Chuck Schumer became the first Jewish Senate Majority Leader, January 20th was a historical day. The past is in the past and the future is bright. If there is one promise Joe Biden will follow through on is that we will overcome this pandemic and restore America back to its greatness.
