We all know what a crazy year it has been surrounding coronavirus. On March 13th, school ended for what we then thought was only going to be a few weeks. Fast forward to around nine whole months and we are still doing online school. Not only that, but the cases have gone up and people are dying every single day from this deadly virus. Unfortunately, because of the number of people who were traveling for Thanksgiving break, we are now at a peak in cases and deaths.
Since the cases have skyrocketed, we are now slowly going back into lockdown. First, all the restaurants were closed, and then all the salons, and now we are only supposed to be leaving our house for essentials.
Looking at the bright side, though it is difficult, the vaccines are being tested right now and essential workers have begun to receive them. By the end of 2021, it is predicted that the population of New York City and Los Angeles combined will have been vaccinated. This is about 12.5 million American citizens. Unfortunately, the truth is that there are not enough vaccines for everyone to be vaccinated right away and most people will have to wait many months. According to the Health and Wellness Network, https://www.cnet.com/health/who-will-get-covid-vaccines-first-cdc-priorities-and-everything-else-we-know/ the first people to be vaccinated will be nursing home residents and their staff, frontline healthcare workers such as doctors, EMTs, nurses, hospital staff, and lab technicians. This is because these are the people who have been risking their lives by being exposed to this virus every day in order to do their job. They are the ones who deserve it first. After everyone within this group is vaccinated, next would be, as of now, people with conditions who are at risk, and older adults. This would be because, though children have died from this disease, older people are more at risk because they customarily have lower immune systems and preexisting health conditions.
Then, of course, you have everyone who does not fall under this category. There are still the people who have special conditions and need it first like children who are at risk because of their immune system. Yet, for anyone who does not have a reason to get it early, you will be waiting until, at the latest, summer 2021.
No one should expect life to go back to normal after everyone is vaccinated. The world has completely changed and we can never fully go back. People have developed good habits like washing their hands much more and being cautious of not getting sick.
Of course, nothing is set in stone for this next year and we just have to hope for the best.
